Building a Hydro powered Generator

A hydro powered Generator is basically a generator that can create electricity through water. It is an electric generator because it uses both magnets and copper wire. Magnets and copper wires create electricity because the force of the magnet turning closely to the copper wires creates a flow of energy, or electrons, which then form into electricity. For an electric generator, the magnets can be turned manually to create electricity, but a hydro powered generator works in a different way. If you look closely, there are four tightly wound coils (made up of 200 tightly wound copper wires) that are attached to the actual bottle that will be holding all the water. The magnets on the other hand appear to be attached to the wires, but instead they are connected to the turbine on the inside by an axle. There are four magnets all together: two facing north and two facing south. This is to create a positive and negative pull through out the wires. Because of the opposite pulls of the magnets, an alternating current is created; meaning the electrons are simultaneously moving through the wires back and forth. The way this is done is from the turbine inside the structure. When water is added the turbine spins, spinning the magnets around the wires, hopefully producing enough electricity. The only problem is not knowing exactly how much electricity this hydro powered generator can make.

The way the model for this project will be built, is based around the model in the picture above. On a bigger scale electricity through made by using a larger turbine, and larger amounts of water from a river or stream. This way is a smaller model using materials that you can find around the house. The water flows through the turbine that is made out of multiple spoons connected to a wooden cork. Through the wooden cork is an axle that spins the magnets on the opposite side. The wires are also connected directly to the bottle and are located closely to the magnets. After that all that needs to be done is to put the model underneath a sink and the turbine will spin creating electricity. The only problem with this is that the amount of volts created by this method is unknown.
